A Passion For Pink

When I was a child of about seven years old I experienced my first encounter with a homosexual–two in fact–two gay gentlemen at a school fete whom I stumbled upon as I was entering the ladies toilet.  One gentleman was dressed in a clown-like dress with a great mass of lopsided frizzy red hair.   I recall thinking what dreadful hair she had and didn’t at the time realise it was a wig.  The other was dressed in a 1920’s ’Fred Astaire’ styled suit.   I thought him to be a bald man but now realise he had simply removed his own wig and I was looking at a skull cap.

The fete was a costume party themed one and I myself was dressed in what I believed to be a splendid fairy costume; a little blue leotard with big wire feathers made of stretched pink gossima sewn into the back.  I wore fluorescent pink stockings with little ballet slippers and carried a silver fairy wand made of wire, coated in aluminium foil.  It had a large five-pointed star at the top and everywhere I went I waved it at people and asked them to make a wish so I could grant it to them.

I was in a tearing hurry to get into the ladies washroom and was mentally pre-occupied with trying to figure out how I could get my leotard down without damaging my wings!   I crashed into the two ‘ladies’ just as they were stepping out and it wasn’t until they spoke to me; one commenting on my cute little outfit and the other excusing ‘her’self as he stepped out of my way; that I realised they were not ladies, but gentlemen.

One of the gentlemen asked me if I was a good fairy or a bad one, to which my response was simply; ’Does it matter?  I can grant wishes!’  Their response was a roar of laughter and the red-head said they wished to be married!  In a hurry to get past, I quickly waved my little wand at them and said ‘So be it!  I grant you your wish!’  The red-head chuckled then kissed his companion full on the lips.  Shocked at the sight I stood staring at them and as I did, I of course wet my pants.  It was a terribly traumatic experience which devastated the remainder of my day–peeing myself, that is–not the encounter with the gay gentlemen.  For some strange and inexplicable reason; which I shall leave in the thoroughly incapable hands of drooling psycho-analysts the world over; I  have harboured a soft spot for homosexual men ever since and it gives me some small delight to think that maybe, just maybe those two gentleman, who may or may not still be together, just may get their wish in the foreseeable future!

‘A Passion For Pink’ is the story of gentleman who loves gentleman and runs to 4325 words.

A Passion For Pink appears in Telling Tales Volume 6.
