Late Night Shift

There is never a better time to write than when that fresh spark of inspiration trickles into one’s mind and slowly, but certainly, encapsulates one’s entire focus, however temporarily.  That is the best and precise time one needs to write–immediately–before the outside world grasps that smoking tendril of inspiration and dissipates your creative thought back to empty frustration.

When the idea for late night shift struck I was curled up in a warm bed, having a peaceful lie-in, following a satisfying evening’s work, a hearty night’s feed, lovely company and a sound and solid night’s sleep; all the elements required for a fresh and vibrant mind seeking new inspiration.  It was eleven o’clock in the morning.  I rolled over, dragged my laptop onto the bed and began writing immediately that the idea came to me.  I did not stop until the story was complete.

It took two hours to write ‘Late Night Shift’, a neat little 2200 word tale about an unexpected evening–which in fact–did happen!

Telling Tales Vol. 6 Late Night Shift appears in volume six of the Telling Tales Series.
