Many view the bible as a religious tome and follow all in this singular compendium of multiple author scripts with a dedication that absolutely fascinates me; this historical book of tales, a depiction of events of the time, transcribed at the time, by those who felt such should be preserved for future generations, has made a monumental mark on the course of humanity. Personally I view the bible and other books of its kind as both an historical, anthropological and scientific research tool; a book to be studied, pondered upon and aligned with other written resources from the same, previous and post periods.
Today’s Telling Tale began with a whisky sour and ended as the beginning of a new book of short stories. At 3638 words, while The Genesis Protocol can indeed be classified as a ‘Telling Tale’; it has a twist and is in itself a contentious point of controversy in today’s world; it is, however, somewhat futuristic and as such, I have unwittingly scribed my very first Science Fiction story.
As already stated, it did not, I must stress, begin as such, but having completed it to my satisfaction and forwarded it to my editor I must say, I have never enjoyed writing a story so much as I enjoyed writing this one.
Without giving anything away I will leave you only with the very first comment, nay, statement, made by my editor after reading this tale;
‘So. God is a woman.’
It has been suggested that this story become the first of a new series of Science Fiction Tales; a thought which is inspiring, to say the very least and most certainly something I shall consider pursuing upon completion of the Telling Tales series.
The deadline for these volumes of Telling Tales was originally September 2013. This date has now been brought forward and the entire series must be completed by the end of April. At the end of two months of working on the Telling Tales volumes, I have notched up 68,000 words. With 30,000 words (at least) remaining until completion of the series, I cannot afford to get ahead of myself .
I have to say though, I am more than a little excited at the thought of entering the realm of Sci-Fi! For now, however, I must crack on Telling Tales!
Let’s see if I can keep my speed up – without wearing out my tyres!
