‘Housekeeping’ is my 29th Telling Tale and runs to 3635 words. Another intrigue with a very tasty twist.
Curiously, this Tale began with the last scene first. The scene popped into my head – and not knowing what to write today or where to begin – I simply wrote out the scene that was a freeze-frame image in my mind. It started nowhere and went nowhere. Ten minutes of silent musing lead to nothing, then it struck me that it was a bloody good ending – to – something! So I wrote another scene, which began as the beginning – again – and became the middle and then another, which began as the new middle and ended as the beginning… confused? I was too but it worked wonderfully well all told – and was all the more thrilling to write because even I never knew what was coming next or who was doing what!
It was an exhausting, but satisfying write (as all intrigues are – particularly when they work!), composed in one solid four-hour session, accompanied by six mugs of milky white coffee, homemade scones and Promite (thank you my darling) and a random ‘shuffle’ combination of Strauss, Beethoven and Amici.
Interestingly enough, my Editor says this one would make a good opening sequence for a novel… but not tonight Josephine! My head is ready to pop so I’m off to make dinner…
Fried Chicken & Gravy, Cauliflower in Cheese Sauce, sautéed Carrots, Baked Potato, Cabernet Shiraz, Black Coffee, Pineapple & Ice-cream for desert. Who needs take-away?
